5 Cozy Simple Living myths Every Cozy Gal needs to know
What does cozy simple living mean, and does it really mean that you’re lazy, selfish, or getting rid of your possessions like it’s on fire?
The answer is quite simple-
You see when it comes to cozy or simple living or both it’s all about what works for you and your life. It is about cleaning out unnecessary mental anguish, and extra emotions, and of course simplifying everything that is not necessary.
While many think simple living means you have to get rid of everything, think minimalism, that isn’t true. I am living my best life surrounded by many old, new, and cozy things. Why? I like things, and yet my life isn’t complicated. And yours doesn’t have to be either.
If you were to google how to do this or do that with simple living, you’d find you run into a lot of advice on minimalism and homesteading. But I’m here to tell you that those options can be a bit extreme especially if you’re a hard-core city person and you’re not about to give up Target. So allow me to simplify the subject and debunk the five myths of cozy simple living.

Cozy Simple Living Myths
You Must Give up everything
You do not have to give up everything. Repeat, I don’t have to get rid of everything. In fact, you don’t have to get rid of anything. Unless you feel it is necessary. I let go of my American life, and all the things wrapped up in that because I discovered it was heading down a path I didn’t like.
But that was my choice.
Your journey might take you down a different path, one that is carved out with your name. Creating your personal cozy simple living is what you make of it. Think about the practice of Hygge, the Danes don’t toss out everything in their home to feel cozy. They surround themselves with things that bring them joy and comfort, creating a simple cozy home.

It’s only for those who don’t have kids
I have kids, and my life is on the path of simple living. While I am not about to force my kids to follow in my footsteps I do share with them some of my cozy and simple living habits by creating a simple cozy home.
That includes creating their very own cozy spaces.
I allow them to choose what they find comforting, or warming. It’s simple to incorporate your cozy simple living when you have kids, after all, who doesn’t love snuggling with a newborn?
Cozy simple living means you’re lazy
Now, just because there are times when I think sweatpants are the only pants I’ll wear in my house on the weekends doesn’t mean that I’m lazy. In fact, I do some of my best cleaning in those bad boys.
And living a simple life doesn’t necessarily mean you have to dress in sweats and leggings all the time.
Right now as I’m writing this I’m wearing a very plush sweater and my skinny jeans. It makes me feel cozy, so I wear this sweater all the time.
And don’t worry about those who don’t understand your life choices. It’s your life, and you know what kind of life you’re living.
Cozy simple living is selfish
Trust me it is not selfish. In fact, if you really put it into perspective simple living is something everyone in your family can benefit from.
According to This Ever Green Home Blog, creating a more simple way of life helps you to free up energy and time to focus on other things.
When you simplify your life, however, that looks to you, ie digital or possessions or flat-out living in the country (cough-me), the more you cut unnecessary things out of your life the better you’re going to feel mentally and emotionally.
Simplicity means homesteading
In come cases, yes simplicity means homesteading. But it doesn’t have to if that is not what you’re into. Simplicity means you are focusing more on the things that matter to you.
You’re carving out the life you want to live whether that is in the city or in the country. Perhaps you want to live off the grid, that is your version of simplicity.
Or maybe you want to live in the smack dab middle of whatever city, but you want to decorate with cottagecore and you want to keep things personal. This is another way of simplicity.
So, as I like to point out your version of simplicity or simple living is different from mine. And no it doesn’t mean you have to become a homesteader.

Simple living is a way of life on your terms, your idea of cozy and simple. If you’re like me and you love things, blankets, large vintage or old things then of course your house isn’t going to look like a doctor’s office.
And that’s ok. It is all about what brings you comfort, makes you feel as though you’re home, a place where you can take a deep breath and let go of the baggage from work, or just being out in the world.
Allow yourself to create a world in your own home that is the protective space that brings you peace. That my friends is what cozy simple living is all about.
