No matter where you are in your life, there is always a way to finding joy in everyday moments.
It’s that quiet kind of magic that lives in the corners of an old farmhouse.
It doesn’t shout or sparkle. It doesn’t arrive with grand gestures or sweeping life changes. Instead, it whispers through the creak of wooden floorboards, the clink of chipped mugs, and the soft morning light that pours through lace curtains. It’s the kind of magic that can only be found when we begin to look for joy in the smallest of things.
I didn’t always know how to do that.

A few years ago, on a cold April morning not unlike today, I found myself standing in the middle of my kitchen—half-dressed, clutching a lukewarm cup of coffee, and blinking back tears for reasons I couldn’t quite explain. The world felt heavy.
Bills were due, and my to-do list seemed endless. I was tired—not the kind of tired that sleep fixes, but the kind that seeps into your spirit. So yeah, it was hard to find joy in anything.
And yet, as I looked out the kitchen window, something caught my eye.
A little bird—round and scrappy—was hopping along the old stone fence just outside. He paused, fluffed his feathers, and tilted his head as if to say, “You’re missing it.”
The art of noticing
That bird was a turning point for me. It reminded me of something I’d long forgotten: joy doesn’t always arrive dressed in perfection. More often than not, it lives in the ordinary. But we have to notice it.
That day, I made myself a quiet promise: I would try to notice more. Not the big things, but the small ones. I would train my heart to see the beauty in the everyday mess of life—the messy buns, the toast crumbs, the early morning fog that settles like a prayer over the garden.
And in doing so, I learned finding joy doesn’t have to be at a resturant or in a local hot spot.
Finding Joy in Farmhouse mornings and slower living
Here at the farmhouse, joy looks like a pot of soup simmering on the stove, slippers that have molded to the shape of my feet, and handwritten grocery lists left under magnets on the fridge. It’s the sound of chickens clucking in the yard, the way my cat follows me from room to room, and the way the sun hits the front porch around 4 p.m.
But the thing is—you don’t have to live in a farmhouse to live this way.
You can start wherever you are.
When you’re done here read my post on my morning routine, where I share with you all the ways I start my morning, my way!
A practice of presence promotes finding joy in everyday
Here are a few ways I’ve learned to finding joy in everyday moments, even in seasons of hardship:
- Begin with breath.
On the hardest mornings, I sit with a warm drink between my hands and just breathe. I don’t check my phone. I don’t make plans. I just let myself be. Sometimes, three deep breaths is all it takes to soften the edges of anxiety. - Make beauty part of your routine.
Add a sprig of rosemary to your dishwater. Light a candle when you fold laundry. Play soft music while you cook. These aren’t just romantic flourishes—they’re grounding rituals that turn mundane tasks into acts of care. - Use your hands.
There’s something deeply healing about doing things with your hands—kneading dough, planting seeds, painting old furniture. Creating something real in a world full of screens is an act of resistance. And a balm. If you need inspiration check out my post on making your own soap. - Write things down.
Every evening, I jot down three things I noticed that day. Not big achievements—just small glimmers. A smile from a stranger. The smell of fresh basil. The warmth of a sunbeam on the floor. This practice has rewired how I see the world. - Let go of the pressure to be constantly “okay.”
Finding joy isn’t about forcing positivity. Some days are just hard. Some seasons are heavier than others. But even then, there is room for light. Let yourself feel what you feel, without judgment—and then look for one good thing. Just one. That’s enough.
Finding joy is a life that feels like home
One of my favorite quotes is: “We are not just here to endure life—we are here to notice it.”

This farmhouse, with all its creaks and quirks, has taught me that. It’s reminded me that joy isn’t something we chase—it’s something we notice when we slow down long enough to see it.
So if you’re reading this with a heavy heart today, I want to say this: you’re not alone. Life gets messy and overwhelming and loud. But beneath all that noise, there’s a steady rhythm waiting for you to return to it. It’s in the stirring of soup. The folding of linens. The watching of birds on a fence post.
You don’t need a big life change. You don’t need to buy anything or go anywhere. You just need to start noticing the life already happening around you.
That’s how you find joy in your everyday life.
Right here.
Right now.
In the smallest of moments.
